THEME: women's empowerment

Soroptimist Club of Peja (Kosovo)

Beekeeping is an important activity that helps rural communities to raise additional income to improve their livelihoods. The Soroptimists of Peja, Kosovo, joined forces with SI Club Imatra in Finland to support a group of women in Peja to protect natural resources for themselves and for future generations through entrepreneurship and environmentally friendly small business development.

The Soroptimists expect the women to advocate for stronger environmental protection standards that support the growth of their businesses. SI Club of Peja also expects them to conduct local conservation projects and to provide vocational training for families where beehives were delivered.

The project involved 12 women who gained valuable knowledge. They held regular trainings for the women’s groups on both beekeeping techniques and entrepreneurship/project management.

The project was implemented successfully. The monitoring visits were done regularly and the Soroptimists of Peja are very satisfied with the outcome!
