FIFTH YEAR OF THE SI TURKEY SEFERİHİSAR YOUTH CAMP
PROJECT : SI TURKEY YOUTH CAMP

This year we have organised our Fifth Youth Camp at Seferihisar, which is one of the outstanding projects of our Union. We had also shared our experiences at the former Struga Leadership Academy. Seferihisar is one of the oldest settlements close to Teos. The camp located on the Campus of Dokuz Eylül University in Seferihisar which promotes “health, culture, sport” for the University Students.
This year, 28 scholarship students attended the camp. They are from various cities and studying various disciplines such as law, medicine, engineering, political science, business adminstration, philosophy, public relations and more.
With 28 scholarship students, Union Board members and the Scholarship Committee President spent one week at the Campus. Months ago, we prepared a training programme and asked our clubs for “Soroptimist trainers”. This year, 21 Soroptimist trainers were with us. Mostly members from clubs located in İzmir and from other clubs attended the sessions. The training program consists of various sessions; every day different subjects were explored; like Advocacy, Heatlh & Environment, Self Improvement, Preparing CV, Mentoring, Presentation Skills Training, Tai chi …
With 21 trainers we also shared our mission and vision: what does it mean to be a Soroptimist? how to be a Soroptimist. After heavy lessons (!), they had leisure time for sports. Each day started with yoga. We gave a break for one day during which we had cultural and historical excursions sharing the beauties of Aegean civilisations. On the last day the students had presentations. We wanted them to share their dreams with us and tell us what they wanted to be in the coming 5 years. We all admired them and were proud with each one of them. After the final speech the students and the trainers received a certificate of attendance and as a souvenir we presented them with mugs bearing our biennium motto & Soroptimist logo as well as Soroptimist t-shirts.
RESULTS:
*Since 5 years , around 150 students attended this camp; we have to be with young people and share our vision with them.
*The students develop friendship among themselves and they are getting to know us better. I hereby thank all our Club Members and Soroptimist Trainers for sharing the spirit of this project; we all were role models for them.
*Some of the students will be our Soroptimist candidates in the coming years; very successful PR in favour of the organization.
*Certificates are an important document for their CV.
*We have created a Whasapp group with the students and are keeping in touch with them.
*We prepared a questionnaire for both students and trainers in order to evaluate the camp and the training.
*Feedback from the students : “Perfect organisation and occasion” to meet such “well equipped “ladies.
