Greek Soroptimist Villy Makou from SI Club Kifisia-Ekali, Athens won the design competition for the 2017 NGO CSW Handbook cover.
Her artwork features a woman occupying the central position in a ‘gear’. This wheel or gear is meant to symbolise the power of collaboration and teamwork while turning towards ‘women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work’, the theme of the 61st session of the CSW. ‘As a woman, painter and Soroptimist I feel extremely honoured and pleased to contribute to a great cause’, said Villy Makou. SIE President Maria Elisabetta de Franciscis remarked, ‘We are extremely proud of the fact that one of our members won this prestigious competition with a design that is both creative and expressive.’
