Soroptimist Club Brno (Czech Republic)

Picking up from 1993, when we planted 30 lime trees (Plant a Tree, Plant a Hope project) in the Královo Pole region of Brno, we wanted to contribute to the Plant trees for a Brilliant Future project by planting a tree to also celebrate our 30th anniversary. Today, most of the trees still remain.

1993 – Founding president Maria Holíková planting the first Plant a Tree, Plant a Hope tree.

2020 – Most of the trees are there, even after almost three decades.

We remain focus on long-term projects, even with the challenges the pandemic has brought us:

  1. Cooperation with sheltered workshops started in 1992. With the Hjøring club, we mediated contact between Danish experts in treatment of autism and Brno NGOs, thus giving base to numerous activities of the NGOs and their offspring. Our involvement has transformed into fund-raising projects and activities promoting over 10 workshops for years.

  1. Dům na půl cesty u Pohořelic (ceased operation last year) was a home for young people leaving children homes. Our support focused on education and food support. With donated dough, we helped the clients bake their Christmas cookies. Using SIE funds support we equipped their new kitchen and mediated donations of sanitary supplies, stoves, furniture, and dishes.

  1. Centre for Family and Social Care is a non-profit organization providing education and advisory to engaged couples, parents on parental leave, single parents, seniors, etc. Brno sisters as mentors and trainers take part in couples’ education and memory trainings for seniors. Through the SIE project My Book, My Buddy, we raised money to buy books for client foster families.
