Sample project A special vocational course has been developed by SI Club St Petersburg-Neva for residents of the city’s ‘Masha’ orphanage.

These are young girls from difficult backgrounds where parental custody has been withdrawn due to alcoholism, drug addiction or child abuse. Though only of secondary or high school age, many of the girls have already spent time ‘on the streets’.

St. Petersburg is often referred to as the ‘cultural capital of Russia’, and the project aims to introduce these girls to the many professional opportunities that exist in this area.

There are two components to the programme: the first gives participants a thorough background in art history, the second teaches them the practical skills required for working in the cultural and the artistic sectors.

A number of local institutions and distinguished experts (including members of SI St Petersburg-Neva) participate and provide visiting lecturers for the project.
