The Soroptimist Club of Asti initiated this project to provide young students with the opportunity to discover and share the stories of women born in Asti and its Province, who have led, or are leading, extraordinary lives in their own unique ways.

The Club launched a special announcement for students in primary and middle schools across the Province of Asti, inviting each class to write about a woman from the region who has distinguished herself through exceptional achievements. These stories could include biographies, anecdotes, or descriptions of the women’s work, with a focus on the qualities that allowed them to excel in fields typically dominated by men, such as sports, politics, science, and technical professions.

The project required students to research historical figures or interview women currently making an impact. After gathering information, they wrote their stories and, in many cases, created portraits of the women featured. The Club compiled the stories and drawings into a booklet, which was officially presented at a press conference in January 2024. The booklet is now being sold to support the Club’s future initiatives.

This project has been considered a success, as it involved 31 classes from schools across the Province of Asti. The resulting publication contains all 31 stories, accompanied by student-drawn portraits of many of the women featured. Proceeds from the booklet’s sales will go toward funding new projects initiated by the Soroptimist Club of Asti.

Inspiring young girls through women leaders is crucial because it provides role models that demonstrate success in various fields, helping to break gender stereotypes. Women leaders boost girls’ confidence and ambition, showing that leadership and competence are not limited by gender. This inspiration also plays a vital role in fostering gender equality and empowers future generations by encouraging a more inclusive and balanced society, where opportunities are accessible to all.
