Leadership. It is universally recognised as a fundamental skill, essential for senior roles.  Regarding the debate on whether leaders are born or made, we believe it is a blend of both. That training and encouragement can unlock leadership skills and empower the leaders of the future.

That is why we launched our own Soroptimist International of Europe (SIE) Leadership Academy, an initiative dedicated to developing and strengthening the leadership skills of young women entering the job market.  Since its inception, the academy has seen international success. This year marks a first with the academy being rolled out in Italy. There, Soroptimist International of Italy will shape tomorrow’s leaders in collaboration with the SDA Bocconi School of Management, ranked one of the best business schools in the world.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Como, this comprehensive programme will take place from 6-10 November 2023. This opportunity for personal development will be offered free of charge to a maximum of twenty-five female graduates aged under thirty, coming from countries across the European Federation. The course will be conducted in English, and participants will stay in a campus or hostel in Como, benefiting from full board.

The Academy’s curriculum will focus on ‘Leadership and Gender’ in the current socio-economic context, affected by the impact of crises spanning climate, health, and economics. Notably, the course will explore the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, both of which have exacerbated gender disparities.

At the core of Soroptimist’s strategic vision is the empowerment of women, by fostering economic autonomy through employment and advancing social sustainability, ultimately striving to ensure dignified lives for all women.

The goal of this course is to propel the careers of young women in a labour market where attributes like proactivity, entrepreneurship, inclusion and social responsibility in decision-making are crucial. The focus will be on cognitive, motivational, and behavioural skills to interact effectively in a multicultural context, with the aim of creating new leaders who excel in inclusivity, listening, and equitable decision-making. The subject matters offered will include:

  • Leadership
  • Self-marketing
  • Time management
  • Problem solving
  • Public speaking

The programme also promises lectures delivered by influential guest speakers on the importance of women’s role in the labour market. Additionally, participants will learn about local and international examples of excellence. The organisers will ensure a pleasant visit to Como and a tour of the lake, which is not to be missed!
