Dear Soroptimists,
The month of March started with International Women’s Day (IWD). Our members proudly rallied both online and took actions such as sending the SI CSW65 statement accompanied by our letter to key stakeholders and politicians. I felt the impact our members made, seeing our poster and video throughout social media on IWD shows that together our global voice can be heard.
After such a global day, the focus turned to Monday, 15th of March marking the opening of the 65th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) in New York. This year’s theme highlights the place of women in public life and leadership. This event is an enormous opportunity to learn how many NGOs and governments are working on this field. It is also an inspiration for projects and advocacy campaigns as all sessions are online. I hope those who joined on February 17th enjoyed the introduction and presentations from our SIE representatives at international organisations and the framework on gender, European Women’s Lobby (EWL), Council of Europe (CoE) and Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) – very interesting! Following this session, Programme Directors and Assistant Programme Directors took part in a session with the Programme Team, much of it a helpful question and answer session. The third session was the introduction to the Mentoring training videos and material, all available in our Member Area/Extranet. I very much encourage everyone to view these videos and be inspired to become a Mentor, as professional women we have so much to offer, and it is extremely rewarding work. As I look into the month of April, I hope you will join us at our two upcoming sessions on Communications and one on Leadership. All members are welcome to join these Zoom webinars.
