Dear Soroptimists,

The 64th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place at the UN in New York from 9 to 20 March 2020. The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The main focus of the session will be on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly. The review will include an assessment of current challenges that affect the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and its contribution towards the full realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Attending CSW64 is a unique and exciting opportunity, open to all Soroptimists, to network, learn about the critical issues affecting women today, and gain insight into the work of SIE and the United Nations. The SIE delegation is led SIE First Vice President Rita Nogueira Ramos. If you would like to join, please fill out a questionnaire by Wednesday, 20 November 2019 that you can find HERE.

Since a limited number of passes are available, interested Soroptimists must fill the questionnaire to apply for a pass. Participants will be chosen on past advocacy/lobbying experience, networking skills, and more. Successful applicants will be notified by mid-December.

Best regards,

The SIE Advocacy Team
