Some 80 representatives from all four Federations and Soroptimist International will gather at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 12-24 March 2017 for the 61st session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

As an ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organisation, Soroptimist International of Europe will be represented by a delegation of 20 Soroptimists, led by SIE President Maria Elisabetta de Franciscis and SIE Vice President for Advocacy Sigrid Ag.  The priority theme for this year’s session is ‘Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work’.

The NGO CSW Consultation Day on 12 March will set the scene for CSW61. Later in the day SIE President Maria Elisabetta de Franciscis will host a reception for the Federation’s delegation.

Throughout the proceedings SIE delegates will be networking with other organisations and government representatives; distributing information materials about our organisation and providing details of Soroptimist key tasks and messages, project work and SI involvement at the UN.

The NGO CSW Forum is a series of events which run parallel to the UN CSW. These events celebrate the work that organisations like Soroptimist International do around the world and offer informative and interesting perspectives on a wide range of issues affecting women and girls. Soroptimist International will be hosting an event as part of the NGO CSW Forum on Wednesday March 15.

Our SIE delegates will be posting regular reports and photos on Facebook about the proceedings. During the session, please also see the SI website for more details of the events.
