About this project The project has the objective of improving the water supply on the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) campus in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

This is a 4-year project and the final commissioning was held on 11 April 2015.

There is a Friendship Link between SI Club Costa del Sol and SI Freetown and the Spanish Club had already worked with the Soroptimists in Sierra Leone, which facilitated communication. In addition, SI Club Gentofte (Denmark) made a key contribution towards raising the necessary funds, with 16 other Danish Soroptimist Clubs also participating.

The partners were consulted for their expert help in specifying the most appropriate water project. They developed a plan and drew up a budget in close collaboration with local partners and suppliers, notably the Guma Valley Water Company.

The goals were to promote better health, offer better education, improve the environment, secure sustainable water supplies, fight diseases (including Ebola) and avoid water wastage.

The project has significantly improved conditions for approximately 6000 students, faculty members and workers in the area, who for many years to come will not have to worry about where to find clean water and will be able to concentrate on education and building a brighter future for their community.
