Poland
women and girls in the town of Cieszyn can consult the qualified professionals at the Centre for Women’s Rights and the Family (‘Centrum Praw Kobiet i Rodziny’) for free, reliable advice on topics ranging from legal aid to school counselling.
More recently, the Centre’s assistance has expanded to include careers advice for women seeking to change their job or wishing to re-enter the workforce after an extended break.
The project was set up by Soroptimist Club Cieszyn, only a year after its founding. Being such a new organisation the club did not qualify for financial help from the Polish state, but members used their contacts to find lawyers and educators who were willing to work on a voluntary basis. The Centre is located on the grounds of the project’s external partner, Cieszyn Castle, which also houses a leading Polish design school.
In addition to operating the Centre, SI Club Cieszyn performs the important task of promoting its activities through public information meetings, leaf-letting and social media.
