The Soroptimists of Maribor launched a project to provide financial and moral support to young women aiming to start their own small businesses. This initiative was designed to empower women by fostering creativity, self-reliance, and economic independence, with the club hoping to continue it as an annual event.
To implement the project, the Soroptimists partnered with the Regional Development Agency for the Podravje-Maribor Region, which offered a four-month programme for aspiring entrepreneurs. Nine women participated, receiving mentorship in areas like business strategy and legal compliance. Financial assistance allowed them to focus fully on their projects. Throughout the programme, the Soroptimists engaged closely with participants, offering support and tracking their progress.
Two participants with the most promising business ideas were selected and awarded €1,000 each in a media-covered ceremony.
In addition to financial support, the Soroptimists secured future collaborations with the awardees, who will offer workshops in graphic design and kinesiology for the public. The project is expected to have long-term impacts, as the women continue their entrepreneurial journeys while maintaining ties with the Soroptimist community.
One awardee expressed deep gratitude, emphasizing the confidence boost and the opportunity to give back through workshops.
In conclusion, this project successfully empowered young women to take control of their futures, showcasing the lasting value of mentorship, solidarity, and financial support!
