Soroptimist International (SI) published the statement entitled “The rights of women and girls” on November 4. In recent years, women and girls have found their human rights being eroded, their voices of protest suppressed, and in some cases, brutally silenced. SI calls on the Iranian Government and all other Governments to cease state-controlled violence against unarmed women and girls immediately.

This statement is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 5, in accordance with the SIE strategy for the period 2019-2025.

Therefore, there is no doubt that SIE President, Carolien Demey fully supports the SI statement, rightly pointing out that:

“As the protests across Iran continue in response to the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, Soroptimist International is deeply concerned that this is just one example of the human rights of women and girls being suppressed in many countries across the globe. We Stand up for Women is the motto for Soroptimist International Europe and it has proven to be most needed”.
