Your personal motivation for serving on the Board 2026-2027?

The ultimate way to serve our organisation and to make a difference for women and girls

What is your vision of a better world? What do you see as the next steps in that direction? What are your aims for this biennium?

My aims are to bring forward common sense, and I like that EWL started with the Parity project: womens 50-50% equal rights and equal space in society.

What do you do to stay motivated in your work? How do you handle challenges or disappointments?

I stay motivated by meeting other Soroptimists and see positive results of the projects and campaigns we do.  I try to shake off disappointment, because things you can´t do anything about, cost too much of your energy resources. It´s better to take a new grip and learn from your mistakes and how to get around the hinder instead. In private, my family including my three foster kids and my interest in nature, history, travelling, culture and photography helps me stay energised and motivated.

What is your country doing to support and empower women? Are there specific policies, initiatives, or cultural movements you’d like to highlight?

Sweden’s government often makes strong promises about equality, but it does not always live up to its image as a leading country. As a result, civil society and NGOs are taking greater responsibility for protecting women’s rights. Last year, the government presented a new strategic plan for equality, and SI Sweden was one of many organisations that provided feedback. If these recommendations are followed, women’s rights could improve significantly.

Tell us about your Soroptimist club! What projects are you most proud of? What makes your club special?

My club is the result of two clubs, SI Malmö and Malmö-Limhamn, which joined forces a few years ago, mainly to ensure our survival. In recent years, however, we have started to grow again.

Although our average age is quite high, we are a group full of energy, strong personalities, and commitment. Our main project focus areas are education, violence against women (VAW), and empowerment.

I would especially like to highlight our tutoring project GNISTAN – The Spark (www.gnistanmalmo.se ), our club’s contributions during the first three years of the war in Ukraine, and how quickly we mobilised support for Nepal after the 2015 earthquake, both through our own initiatives and by supporting SI Kathmandu and other organisations.
