Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming society, yet women remain underrepresented in technological fields and in the development of AI systems. The Soroptimists of Pescara launched this conference to address gender-related challenges in technology, promote female participation in AI, and provide participants with a clearer understanding of how artificial intelligence affects everyday life, work and public policy.
The conference was held at the Aula Magna of the “Tito Acerbo” State Institute in Pescara as part of a broader programme of events focusing on gender issues. Following a welcome address by the Club President, the event opened with a contribution from the President of the National Committee for Equal Opportunities of Soroptimist International of Italy, who presented the mission and key projects of Soroptimist International.

A sociology professor from the University of Chieti-Pescara, also a member of the Club, explored the social impact of technology, highlighting ethical issues, data protection and the implications of artificial intelligence for human rights, with particular attention to how these developments affect women. The programme continued with an intervention by a lecturer from ISIA Pescara Design, who explained how selected AI models work and presented student projects on AI hallucinations and serious games, demonstrating how innovation and creativity can be integrated into education.
The event attracted strong interest and enthusiastic participation from Soroptimist members from across the Abruzzo region and beyond. Implemented with a modest budget and without organisational difficulties, the project was considered a success. It provided a valuable platform for education, dialogue and inspiration, encouraging women and girls to engage with artificial intelligence and to envision their place in shaping an inclusive digital future.
