In the heart of Moesano, the local Soroptimist Club launched an inspiring initiative titled “Inform and Educate”—a project that brings together young girls and female professionals to challenge stereotypes and open new doors in science and technology.

Since early 2023, the Soroptimists of Moesano have been working to promote gender equality in education and the workforce by guiding girls, starting from age 14, to discover the many opportunities available in the MINT sectors (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural sciences, and Technology). The initiative was sparked by the recognition that many girls hesitate to pursue these fields simply due to a lack of accessible role models and exposure.

One of the central components of the project is the innovative event “Teatime with Science & Technology”. In this relaxed and interactive format, local girls meet with women professionals working in scientific and technical careers. Each girl selects three areas of interest and rotates between tables, sharing conversations over tea and pastries. The aim is to create a safe space where questions are welcomed, curiosity is encouraged, and inspiration flows naturally. The first edition, held in 2023, was so successful that it is already planned to continue annually.

The project also reaches the wider public. Conferences in 2024 have celebrated women Nobel Prize winners, welcomed Piera Levi Montalcini for a session with students, and brought sociolinguist Vera Gheno to speak on inclusive language. At a local Career Fair, the Soroptimists engaged the public with thought-provoking quizzes on gender and professional choices.

With over 280 beneficiaries already reached and more than 80 volunteer hours contributed annually, the project has proven both impactful and sustainable. It has generated strong media interest and enthusiastic feedback from schools, families, and the girls themselves. Many participants expressed renewed confidence in their aspirations, while professionals were inspired by the girls’ curiosity and have committed to supporting future editions.

“Inform and Educate” is more than a project—it’s a growing movement in the region, creating bridges between generations and empowering girls to envision themselves as tomorrow’s scientists, engineers, and innovators. The Soroptimists of Moesano have not only sparked interest but planted the seeds of real change.
